Cost-effectiveness Analysis of Maternal Immunization with RSVpreF Vaccine for the Prevention of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Among Infants in Spain

Economic evaluation conducted from the perspective of the Spanish National Health System to assess the cost-effectiveness of maternal immunisation with the bivalent RSVpreF vaccine compared with no intervention for preventing respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection in infants.

Using a hypothetical cohort model and a Markov-type process, the study estimated clinical outcomes, costs and QALYs.

Results showed that maternal vaccination could reduce RSV-related hospitalisations, emergency department visits, primary care visits and deaths, while generating cost savings for the healthcare system.

Maternal immunisation was found to be a dominant strategy compared with no prevention.
